White House Petition of the Day: Make Legislators Wear Logos of Corporate Backers
The latest brilliant idea to come out of We The People website is this petition suggesting that lawmakers should be required to be more transparent about their financial backers by wearing logos of their corporate “sponsors,” just like the NASCAR drivers do. As of Thursday evening, it has accrued more than 9,000 of the 100,000 signatures it needs to be formally addressed by the White House. GOOD magazine previously explored this idea with photoshopped mockups of New York Senator Charles Schumer and Florida Senator Marco Rubio donning logo patches of their contributors on their suits.
Hat tip goes to Dangerous Minds.
Not likely to go anywhere (just NASCAR drivers, who drive in circles), but sort of amazing.
Now the White House petition won’t go anywhere, because they tend to not as a rule, but I see a bright and beautiful future for this idea as applied by people with access to Photoshop, political cartoonists, etc.
This is…eerily appropriate considering what’s happening with Hostess right now.
This is more or less how every power dynamic in America works: the people at the top telling the people in the lower middle that those at the bottom are taking all their shit. Meanwhile the people at the top are laughing on their way to the bank.
yep

an idea:
I would like to start up a trans-positive, intersectional radical feminist/anarcha-feminist blog collectively run by folks who would like to contribute personal stories, quotes, images, zines, books, articles, etc. and a support network where folks who are dealing with sexism and misogyny can come to vent and have an online support in this space.
Is anyone interested? Hit me up!
I’d like to give a call-out to any women-identified people of colour, LGBTQ and other non-white-male-privileged women-id’d folks that might be interested in getting involved. I am a cis white female, therefore my perspectives will be affected by my privlege.
Signal boost!

I just got word from my boss at Obama headquarters that there is a MAJOR problem with young voters taking pictures of their votes while in the booth and posting them to various social media sites. THIS IS ILLEGAL, disqualifies votes, and could be seriously detrimental to the Obama campaign! I know of all you are smart enough to know that taking pictures in the booth is a bad idea, but we can not afford to lose any votes or have problems that can be so easily avoided! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!
Vice President Joe Biden spoke with a woman at a campaign event Tuesday in Sarasota, Fla., telling her that discrimination against transgender people is the “civil rights issue of our time.”
The woman, Linda Carragher Bourne, said something inaudible to the Vice President, to which Biden responded with the words, “civil rights issue of our time,” according to a pool report. Bourne later told reports that her daughter was Miss Trans New England and she had asked if the Vice President would help.
“A lot of my friends are being killed, and they don’t have the civil rights yet. These guys are gonna make it happen,” Bourne told the pool about the Democratic ticket.
Vice President Biden has shown a track record of speaking his mind on LGBT issues. He said he was “absolutely comfortable” with marriage equality in May, three days before President Barack Obama announced his personal support. The Vice President’s statement is widely acknowledged to have moved up the President’s timeline.
Last August, Vice President Biden met with a group of LGBT advocates in Provincetown, Mass. and said they were “freeing the souls of the American people,” while he credited them with advancing the “civil rights of every straight American.”
Biden is a pretty quality guy, gosh.
Did you know he’s one of the youngest people to become a senator?? They actually adjusted the election law because he ran when he wasn’t old enough but would be old enough when elected and he still got elected!!
also according to my dad he’s one of the funnest senators

Romney, in shift, says Obama has not raised taxes - latimes.com
Is Romney okay? Between this and “why don’t airplane windows roll down” and “fuck citizens united we’ve gotta regulate the teachers unions” I’m starting to worry.

David Wilson and Julie Goodridge, two of the plaintiffs whose case led to the legalization of marriage equality in Massachusetts, described meeting with Romney to discuss their experiences. According to Wilson, “it was like talking to a robot. No expression, no feeling.” At one point, Romney remarked, “I didn’t know you had families.” Goodridge recalls her final exchange with the governor, which proved to her that he had “no capacity for empathy”:
GOODRIDGE: Governor Romney, tell me — what would you suggest I say to my 8 year-old daughter about why her mommy and her ma can’t get married because you, the governor of her state, are going to block our marriage?
ROMNEY: I don’t really care what you tell your adopted daughter. Why don’t you just tell her the same thing you’ve been telling her the last eight years.
