Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Abortion hasn’t ended in Mississippi.
Legal and safe abortion has ended in Mississippi.
And even though we need to take a moment to mourn for all the people who will suffer as a result of this, we also need to get really, really, really angry.
Hang on, did they close the Jackson Women’s Health Organization? The articles I just pulled up suggested that it’s still open, even though it’s the only abortion clinic in Mississippi. We definitely still need to get very angry about this, even if the JWHO is still open.
Here’s an excerpt from the Mother Jones article I found about it (full article here).
“Many people will say, “Oh yeah, well, it’s Mississippi, what do you expect?” But there are other states that aren’t too far away from this reality. Both North and South Dakota are also down to one clinic and zero in-state providers. The number of abortion providers in the country has declined 38 percent from its peak in 1982, according to the National Partnership for Women & Families. Meanwhile, states have passed a record number of new abortion restrictions in the past two years: 92 new laws in 2011 and 43 in 2012. So although many women may have the right to access abortion, the actual opportunity to do so is becoming harder to come by.”
and his response to this question is that he used HIS experience as a first-time dad with a wanted child. It’s not the same when you don’t want it. It’s not the same when you already have the number of kids you want. It’s not the same as a MAN.
Joe Biden is answering this right. Joe Biden can have his beliefs and I respect him for that but he understands that it’s not his decision for other people and that it IS a life-saving procedure. It is a NECESSARY procedure.
And Paul Ryan totally just lied about whether people who want abortion to be safe a legal should be worried. We should be VERY worried (also notice that he didn’t answer it, he just talked about un-elected judges and how they shouldn’t make decisions about abortion). Romney wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and he WILL do it because he will be able to completely alter the Supreme Court for a very long fucking time.
We should be VERY worried.
It’s truly a deep, deep shame that not every politician has the same views as Joe Biden when it comes to legislating things outside of his religious views because Joe Biden actually understand what it means to have a separation of church and state and be able to vote int he best interests of EVERYONE.
If you can’t legislate in a way that doesn’t dictate your beliefs over others, then you should not be a legislator and you most surely do not deserve to be the vice-president of the United States, Paul Ryan.
Love,
Rabble
Also remember — Ryan, if he had his way, would outlaw IVF (in-vitro fertilization). How nice for him that he has his beloved kids the “correct” way, but he’d prevent hundreds of thousands of people from becoming parents because of their medical situation. Maybe you think you’ll never come to that crossroads but guess what — no one does until they’re there.
My grandmother, who’s a devout Christian born in Texas in 1929, has always been very open minded. She’s not racist or homophobic, most likely because as a Mexican she knew what it was like to face discrimination, but she’s extremely pro-choice, and a few years ago she told us why.
When she was a preteen (11-13), she moved to San Francisco and lived in an apartment building for some time, the woman in the apartment next to her was a young single nurse living on her own. This woman was very friendly, hard not to like.
After a while my grandmother noticed she hadn’t seen the nurse in some time, as did other people in the building. Around the time my grandmother was wondering where she went, she began to notice a bad smell coming from what seemed like somewhere in the apartment. As time went on the smell got worse, until her family realized it was coming from the apartment next to them, the nurse’s home.
When they broke the door down they found the nurse dead in her bathroom, the smell was from her body beginning to rot.
Turns out that the nurse had gotten pregnant from a very high up MARRIED doctor at the hospital she worked at. Of course in that time having a baby out of wedlock, especially from a married man, was something extremely shameful, so she had tried to give herself a home abortion and died in the process.
My grandmother never forgot what had happened to the nurse, and that was the reason she was and still is vehemently pro-choice.
When people say shit like “Our generation survived Roe V Wade” it makes me want to tear my hair out. These people, either out of ignorance or just plain stupidity, don’t acknowledge the FACT that Roe V Wade wasn’t the start of abortion, it was the LEGALIZATION of it.
LEGALIZATION MEANING THAT IT HAD ALREADY BEEN HAPPENING, NOW IT WAS JUST LEGAL TO DO IT.
Before Roe V Wade women like my grandmother’s neighbor were dying or being mutilated by home abortions or unlicensed doctors. Women are going to get abortions whether it’s legal or not, the best thing you can do for them is to give them a safe, clean environment with a licensed doctor and good moral support.Anything less is simply a death sentence.

The video of her awesome speech can be found here.
Funny of how the MI legislature wants to regulate women’s bodies, but doesn’t want to hear them said out loud.
In protest of Rep. Brown being silenced I am tweeting the word “vagina” to the @MIHouseGOP.
Join me?
The badass women of the Michigan legislature who spoke out against the Michigan bill that is the strongest and harshest anti-choice bill in the country. Many of these women were deemed “out of order” and cannot speak today.
It is 20-fucking-12 and state congresswomen protesting draconian anti-choice legislation are being barred from speaking for being ‘out of order’. NO. Those responsible for barring them are out of order for intentionally silencing the voices of people directly affected by this issue of human rights.

The protest against Michigan’s anti-choice bills went great (you can see pictures and videos by clicking on these links), but it wasn’t enough. The GOP decided not to vote on the bills Tuesday because there were “too many opposition present”. Well, we’re going to make it so that every time they try to vote on it there is opposition present.
There is a protest on Thursday June 13th at 10 am. Can you make it? If you can, click on the link above to RSVP. There is also a facebook event that can be found here
Stand up for Michigan women, come out to Lansing on Thursday.
Signal boost this everywhere!
Make No Mistake:
The Republican Party has declared War on American Women.
The only path forward for our nation is the UTTER DESTRUCTION

Here is the Doonesbury comic that multiple newspapers refuse to run.
Woman: Excuse me, is this where I get the sonogram?
Doctor: Yes it is, miss… Would this be your first pregnancy termination?
Woman: Yes.
Doctor: Then you’ll need to fill out this form. Please take a seat in the shaming room.
Woman: In the what?
Doctor: A middle-aged, male state legislator will be with you in a moment.

EVEN if the information might be vital to the patients survival.
This makes me sick to my stomach, on the verge of tears.
It’s very clear that conservatives don’t care if women live or die as long as they can control us.
This is completely disgusting. Whatever happened to the principle of doing no harm? When it comes to a person’s health, what they don’t know absolutely can and often will hurt them! Not to mention that, if the woman does have a health complication that could end her life, the fetus would die anyway. So what’s the point of letting the woman die? I don’t understand!
…On that note, happy International Women’s Day.
